Searching the Marketplace

Courses in the FirstForward Marketplace may be found by entering simple keywords. These search terms are used to match against course titles, course descriptions, topic areas, class locations, and the name of the vendor providing the training.

You may further refine the keyword search by including special commands:

  • To match the beginning and end of a word, include * in the middle of a keyword as wildcard (e.g., crim*s)
  • To match a specific phrase, add double quotes (e.g., "in the field")
  • To require words, add + before the word or phrase (e.g., +enforcement)
  • To exclude words, add - before the word or phrase (e.g., -structure)

Except when an exact match is required, the Marketplace search will attempt to match similar words, including partial matches and some misspellings.

Course Information

This interactive lecture discusses the most frequent pediatric prehospital medical problem—respiratory disease. Good assessment and early intervention for pediatric respiratory problems can avert serious illness and preventable death and may shorten treatment time in the emergency department.

This course focuses on certain key physical signs and symptoms that will allow the prehospital professional to rapidly assess the effectiveness of gas exchange in the airways and alveoli. It also details the Pediatric Assessment Triangle (PAT), which is an important first step in determining the severity of disease, localizing the physiologic problem, and beginning treatment.

After completing this course, the practitioner will be able to:
* Describe how to assess airway and breathing, including interpreting information from the PAT and ABCDEs.
* Differentiate between respiratory distress, respiratory failure, and respiratory arrest based on history, physical exam, and physiologic monitoring.
* Contrast the key signs and symptoms of upper airway obstruction versus lower airway obstruction.

What is external training?

Most vendors publish their online and classroom courses in a way that allows FirstForward to process enrollments. This includes purchase of online courses that can be assigned and completed on this website and student registrations that reserve seats in a particular class.

Some approved vendors are granted permission to also publish courses as external training. Such courses can be discovered on the FirstForward Marketplace, but all purchase, enrollment and tracking of course completion is managed on the vendor's remote website. External training will appear in the Marketplace like other training, but will link to the website where the purchase takes place.

Because course completion is tracked elsewhere, FirstForward will not be able to automatically include external training on your professional credentials. The student or the vendor providing the course will need to enter that completion manually.

Course License Options

The FirstForward Marketplace offers different licensing options available to course vendors. Each course may be offered for purchase under one or more of these license options:

A course purchased with a single-view license will be accessible only once. A member may restart or resume the course while in progress, but will no longer be able to view course material once the course is completed.

A course purchased with a one-year subscription license will be accessible for 365 days. A member may restart, resume or retake the course until one year after the purchase date.

Access to multiple courses can be purchased at once by subscribing to a vendor's online catalog. All courses included in the catalog are available to take on demand for one year, allowing you the freedom to choose which topics are most important and relevant to your profession. Your subscription will allow you access to new courses as they are published.
