This online course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the issues surrounding body-worn cameras in law enforcement, including history, areas of concern, legal and privacy issues, policy development and application, retention concerns, and the use of force video footage review. By the end of the module, learners will be able to identify reasons for implementing body-worn camera policies, understand potential consequences of an officer turning off their body-worn camera , identify limitations and potential enhancements of body-worn cameras, identify potential issues with relying on and reviewing body-worn camera footage, and understand the difference in “recordable" versus "releasable" information in relation to body-worn cameras and other recording devices used by law enforcement. They will learn the implications of utilizing body worn cameras and be able to craft their own opinions on the issue.
