Searching the Marketplace

Courses in the FirstForward Marketplace may be found by entering simple keywords. These search terms are used to match against course titles, course descriptions, topic areas, class locations, and the name of the vendor providing the training.

You may further refine the keyword search by including special commands:

  • To match the beginning and end of a word, include * in the middle of a keyword as wildcard (e.g., crim*s)
  • To match a specific phrase, add double quotes (e.g., "in the field")
  • To require words, add + before the word or phrase (e.g., +enforcement)
  • To exclude words, add - before the word or phrase (e.g., -structure)

Except when an exact match is required, the Marketplace search will attempt to match similar words, including partial matches and some misspellings.

Course Information

This course discusses how a response to a hazardous materials/WMD incident begins with initial training, continuing education, and preplanning activities at target hazards and other potential problem areas throughout the jurisdiction or response district. Target hazards include any occupancy type or facility that presents a high potential for loss of life or serious impact to the community resulting from fire, explosion, or chemical release. * Identify the difference between hazardous materials/WMD incidents and other emergencies.
* Identify the location of both the emergency response plan and/or standard operating procedures.
* Define the terms hazardous materials (or dangerous goods, in Canada) and weapons of mass destruction.
* Understand the difference(s) between the standards and federal regulations that govern hazardous material response activities.
* Describe the different levels of hazardous materials training: awareness, operations, technician, specialist, and incident commander.
