Warehouses are deceiving. Firefighters long have forgotten that these structures have excessive fire loads, dead and static loads, and even possess complex firefighting obstacles that require a new outlook. Long ingress and egress times, large open areas, narrow rack storage, and minimal personnel exits are all factors that complicate operations. Firefighters need a new appreciation for fires in warehouses. A new approach that enhances the response and reaction by responders will improve survivability and reduce the incidence of playing catch-up on these large commercial structures.
