Searching the Marketplace

Courses in the FirstForward Marketplace may be found by entering simple keywords. These search terms are used to match against course titles, course descriptions, topic areas, class locations, and the name of the vendor providing the training.

You may further refine the keyword search by including special commands:

  • To match the beginning and end of a word, include * in the middle of a keyword as wildcard (e.g., crim*s)
  • To match a specific phrase, add double quotes (e.g., "in the field")
  • To require words, add + before the word or phrase (e.g., +enforcement)
  • To exclude words, add - before the word or phrase (e.g., -structure)

Except when an exact match is required, the Marketplace search will attempt to match similar words, including partial matches and some misspellings.

Course Information

Ethical behavior is healthy spirituality in action. For a spiritually healthy person (whose "3 Accounts of Spirituality" are full), ethical behavior is a natural expression of his/her idealism. The nature of the career is to drain an officer in all 3 dimensions of spirituality, and — in that state of spiritual overdraft — ethical behavior becomes difficult, if not impossible, to maintain.

Integrity — acting in accordance with your values and principles in the face of temptation — is a perishable skill that is replenished by nurturing your spirituality.

You cannot truly be happy if you are not acting “in integrity with” your essential beliefs. Betraying your principles causes you spiritual pain. Many cops try to numb that pain by acting in ways that increase their pain. Self-interest demands you behave in integrity with your principles. Behaving properly — in accordance with your value system — is the only way that you can hope to achieve peace of mind.

This course presents 2 types of tools for maintaining and recovering integrity:

Category 1. Building up ethical clarity and will-power (5 tools)
Category 2. Minimizing the “cost” of an ethical temptation (3 tools)

What is external training?

Most vendors publish their online and classroom courses in a way that allows FirstForward to process enrollments. This includes purchase of online courses that can be assigned and completed on this website and student registrations that reserve seats in a particular class.

Some approved vendors are granted permission to also publish courses as external training. Such courses can be discovered on the FirstForward Marketplace, but all purchase, enrollment and tracking of course completion is managed on the vendor's remote website. External training will appear in the Marketplace like other training, but will link to the website where the purchase takes place.

Because course completion is tracked elsewhere, FirstForward will not be able to automatically include external training on your professional credentials. The student or the vendor providing the course will need to enter that completion manually.

Course License Options

The FirstForward Marketplace offers different licensing options available to course vendors. Each course may be offered for purchase under one or more of these license options:

A course purchased with a single-view license will be accessible only once. A member may restart or resume the course while in progress, but will no longer be able to view course material once the course is completed.

A course purchased with a one-year subscription license will be accessible for 365 days. A member may restart, resume or retake the course until one year after the purchase date.

Access to multiple courses can be purchased at once by subscribing to a course bundle offered by a vendor. All courses included in the bundle are available to take on demand for one year, allowing you the freedom to choose which topics are most important and relevant to your profession. Your subscription will allow you access to new courses as they are published and added to the course bundle.
