Before a comprehensive wellness and suicide prevention program can be implemented into the culture of an agency, executive leadership must first be committed to the initiative. It is critical that impediments be removed, new paradigms be adopted, and policy change be initiated and diffused throughout all levels of the organization. This highly interactive training gives executive leadership the opportunity to accomplish this by learning about the underlying causes of suicide, why the National Suicide Awareness for Law Enforcement Officers (SAFLEO) Program is needed, solutions to barriers to help-seeking, and how to implement and nurture their program long-term. In addition, participants are given multiple opportunities to exchange ideas, strategies, and promising practices in a forum setting. The training concludes with participants creating action plans tailored to their agencies.
